Falling in love seems to be very rare, and that it may never happen to yourself. Which is exactly how Theresa felt after her husband divorced her in the book Message In a Bottle written by Nicholas Sparks. Theresa lived in Boston during modern times and was a columnist for a magazine. She was very famous around her area for her great writing. Theresa ended up falling in love with a man named Garrett Blake who lived in Wrightsville beach, North Carolina also during modern times. Garrett was a man that loved the ocean; he owned a small shop near the beach and enjoyed sailing the ocean on his boat Happenstance. Garrett Blake’s first love was named Catherine, who died from being hit by a car and he felt as if he would never get over her. One day Theresa was running down the beach and she found a message in a bottle, the message was written by Garrett as a love letter to Catherine after her death. It showed his strong love and feelings towards her. This letter touched Theresa, putting her in tears, it made her determined to find the writer. Theresa did research and found the man, Garrett, living in Wrightsville beach. All she wanted to do was meet him; little did she know she’d fall madly in love with him.
After Theresa’s husband cheated on her, she felt lonely and felt as if he was going to be her only love. Even though she was so angry with him for what he had done to her, and even though they divorced each other, she was struggling with getting over him. Theresa was feeling lonely, especially when her twelve-year old son would leave her to go visit him in Chicago. Theresa’s good friend Deanna was always telling Theresa that she needed to get over him, and that she deserves to find a new love. When Deanna saw Theresa’s reaction when she read the messages in the bottles that had been found by Theresa and two others, Deanna knew that Theresa had to meet this man.
