Chapter 3

3.0 METHODOLOGY
This is concerned with the various approaches adopted in the execution of the project. The data for this project were gotten from intensive planning and field survey methods, illustrated below
3.1 RECONNAISSANCE
After obtaining the aim and scope of the project, the next step to follow in any survey project is reconnaissance. It’s simply a survey of any kind by the surveyor before the project begins. This is one of the most important aspect of any survey work/project, it should be carried out before lengths and angles are been measured.
Reconnaissance should be carried out to determine the starting point, the route or path to be followed, points to be controlled and closing station. Before selecting the starting and closing points of the survey operation, existing control station whose order and accuracy was equal to or greater than the traverse to be run.
In this project, the recce was properly carried out. These simply involves: moving round the entire path, picking out station and ensuring inter-visibility between survey line, sketches and noting down difficulties and how to overcome them. When sitting stations, the number of stations selected should be kept to a minimum.
There are two aspect of reconnaissance:
1. Office Reconnaissance
2. Field Reconnaissance
OFFICE RECONNAISSANCE
This has to with the information needed in the office that will aid the successful planning and execution of the project in line with the required specification. Setting out target about duration of the execution of the project was conducted. The type of order of the project was decided here and the type of instruments to be used as well as the scale, costing, and time management were planned.
FIELD RECONNAISSANCE
This is the actual visit of the surveyor to the site to acclimatize him with the environment and decides the position of boundary of the project. At this stage, the points spotted on the imagery that have been georeference are confirmed on...
