Selecting the Right Communication Channel
Abstract
The following paper will outline the communication channel that is best suited for the three scenario responses. The two main forms of communication are written and oral communication (Robbins & Judge, 2011). Subordinate to the two forms of communication are 10 different styles of delivery. These include from lowest channel richness to highest channel richness, “formal reports, memos and letters, prerecorded speeches, electronic mail, online discussion groups, voicemail, live speeches, telephone conversations, video conferences, and face to face conversations” (Robbins & Judge, 2011, p. 358).
Scenario One
You are the marketing manager for a new beverage that has done remarkably well in the United States after its introduction, especially in sports arenas, such as football and basketball. The Vice President of operations charged you and your team to develop a strategy for entering this new beverage into the global market. You need to take this task back to your team, provide them with the product details, and get them started as quickly as possible because they only have one week to develop a strategy.
The best communication channel that would be used to interact with the team would be face-to-face conversations. The team members only have one week to develop their strategy, this will entail reprioritizing time for brainstorming and creativity. To have everyone’s input collectively should reduce the amount of pressure for the short timeframe and produce greater results for the end product. In the short amount of time allotted, an e-mail or bulletin channel of communication would not support the deadline for completion and may diminish the cohesive working environment of the team.
