Midnight; a time of terror, pain, and fear, never a drop of goodness left as the world is engulfed in a deep hue of blackness. Time slowed down but the beating of our hearts were at a sickening pace the clock was at a repetition tic toc tic toc we sat they’re waiting for the phone to ring waiting and waiting until the clock struck midnight and the phone rang. Hastily mom jumped to the phone and grabbed it. She sat there listening until suddenly a tear escaped her eye and she clasped her mouth. Worriedly Abell and me sat down quietly wondering what was going on. My mom took the phone and furiously slammed it onto the receiver, and swiftly held us. We had no clue what was going on but we hugged her back. She took us to are room and told us that shed explain everything in the morning, so we waited until are bodies couldn’t take it anymore and we slept.
Morning came and we awoke to a smell of sadness and tears, my mom was just sitting there watching us sleep. She told us to get dressed, and took us into the living room where we sat and listened to the birds sing. We sat on are new white recliner couch and listened. My mother explained that my dad wouldn’t be coming back from visiting his dad in Haiti, and that he had been shot in a mugging. He had attempted to reason with the gunner but had met his end with a bullet in his chest, arm and leg. Since we were young we didn’t really comprehend what was going on, especially since we were going to are dads church without him, but we walked in and were greeted by are family and family friends. We saw Marcus and ran over to him while are mom talked with his parents. My dads friends Gabe and Alex walked up to us and said “ your father was a great man, I have known him all my life and I am devastated that this has happened but I want you to know that I will always remember him and will treat you both like my own sons in honor of him”. We took are seats and listened to heart filled speeches given by people that knew him....
