Diary Entry
July 9th 1942
It has been two long days since we moved into the annex and it has been a dismal! A wooden staircase leads from the downstairs hallway to the third floor. At the top of the stairs is a corridor, with doors on either side of it. The door on the left takes you up to the storage area, the attic and loft is in the front part of our house. There is a very steep, spiraling staircase which also runs from the front part of the house to another door opening onto the street. The door to the right of the landing leads to the Secret Annex at the back of the house. No one would ever suspect there were so many rooms behind that boring old door. Straight ahead of you there is a steep flight of stairs. To the left is a narrow hallway opening onto a room that is called the Frank family’s living room and bedroom and none of the other families are allowed in there. Next door is a smaller room, the bedroom and study. To the right of the stairs is a bathroom with a sink and toilet. The door in the corner leads to the toilet and another one to Anne’s’ and my room. Now I have shown you all of the secret annex.

Did he heard something after all and did he now want to check out this mysterious looking bookcase? It seemed so, since he kept knocking, pulling, pushing and jerking on it. I was so scared I nearly fainted at the thought of this person managing to discover our hiding place.

Night after night, we are still in the same stupid carriage. They only give us bread crumbs one hour a day. By the time we get there I will look like a pale white...
