“Mind over Mass Media”
Technology of the 21st century has increased and improved so much over the
years. The internet launched in 1969 and brought the world a juice box of unlimited
information. Technology has brought us new ways to access the information through
internet, communication between people and the spread of news. These days
technology has improve rapidly we have advance phones and Computers that allow us
to access the news , communicate with our friends and lets people do their jobs more
efficient. With the industry of technology moving rapidly during the years ,paper and pen
are becoming old fashion in the eyes of the new generation. Meaning newspaper, books
and articles are not being use for its purpose in these days because people find it
easier to google it and find a summary or key point in the internet rather than reading
the book or article. Technology has more effected advantages rather than its
disadvantages. Would this limit our intellectual mind and limited us to one perspective of
news or an idea?
Steven Pinker stated “using technology can lower our intelligence encouraging
us to skin on the surface of knowledge rather than dive to its depths” (175).The use of
technology affects us by limiting us to a specific information you had seen in the
computer instead of the person reading the book or article and constructing your own ideas of the topic. Now days people are used to the use of technology, finding it easier
and time saver rather than to spend their time in reading the book, article or newspaper
and knowing they will find the same key points or ideas. Also the information provide by
the other source rather than true source may lead us to someone’s else perspective of
the topic or idea making us slant towards their ideas and view of the topic but also in the
books and articles people are still slanted towards the authors perspective. Is world of
technology really harmful to us?
