Introduction:
The purpose of a mission statement is to reflect an organizations fundamental purpose of want they want to accomplish. A mission statement should also be to the point, easy to read and easy to understand. Many organizations attempt to go above and beyond this by attempting to include the programs description as well. They do this by including words such as provide in their statement. This paper will review three Health and Human Service organizations mission statements, and evaluate them as to whether they are or are not in fact good mission statement. The three Health and Human Service organizations that have been chosen to reflect are; the NH Department of HHS (NH DHHS), National Association for the Education of Homeless Children and Youth (NAEHCY) and United Way of Merrimack County.

Mission Statements:
The mission statement for the NH DHHS (n.d.) is, “To join communities and families in providing opportunities for citizens to achieve health and independence.” This mission statement meets many of the requirements for it is short and to the point, it is easy to read and understand and it reflects their purpose of want they want to accomplish. However, this statement is a little broad in its nature. It does not really show what means of opportunity they are providing the citizens with or what their hopes of accomplishment are.

The next mission statement is for NAEHCY (2007) is:
The National Association for the Education of Homeless Children and Youth (NAEHCY), a national grassroots membership association, serves as the voice and the social conscience for the education of children and youth in homeless situations.
