Before ruffling our feathers over the topic let us first understand the importance of music in man’s life. In this modern world where life has become full of hectic pace man desperately hankers after a welcome respite from the blind struggle for survival. Music in fact provides him the same.
It must be kept in mind that music is not an individual effort. It is the combined effort of the lyricist, the music director, the music arranger and overall the singer and the musicians. Other persons like the sound recordist, the publishing company all play a vital role. Music following the trend of the contemporary style is called modern music. But why are we ruffling our feathers over the issue whether modern music is at all music or not.
The concept of market force also has affected the music industry. Since of late even music involves tremendous investment for its publicity production etc. music has now become not the outburst of the natural urge of the creator but an artificial product catering to the psyche of the average listeners. Our page three culture and the cosmopolitan life style has also pampered the modern generation to adopt music which is squalid, lurid, baseless yet provocative enough to tantalize people towards them. Bereft of the quality of bringing peace to the mind they only lure the listeners towards their basic animal instincts. Music of late is nothing but a cacophony of blaring instruments coupled with whining voices. Neither the musicians nor the lyricists not even the artists are properly trained. Thus they become mere copy cats, copying music from the western creations. Music now is being created as instantly as two minutes noodles and oodles of songs are flooding the market. Thus except some cases modern music has ceased to be called at all a music.
In the past however, the situation was not such. The lyricist took time to create a good lyric and the music director took pain to add proper scoring. The singer...
