Slavery of the Israelites in Egypt precedes the birth of Moses. The brutality of the Pharaoh in this time period in putting the Israelites in extreme bondage and oppression was cruel and unjust. Not only did he oppress the Israelites, he also had the all male children to be killed in fear of the Israelites growing numbers. In this very same time the prophet Moses was born. It was because of his mother he survived. During the time period of the Pharaoh having male babies executed, the mother of Moses kept Moses in hiding for three months so he would not suffer the same demise as many other newborns. After these three moths had passes Moses’ mother placed Moses along the river bank in desperation that another would find him. The daughter of the very same pharaoh was the first to see baby Moses. She made it possible that Moses would be raised in the house of the pharaoh. He stayed until he was a grown man, but after witnessing a fellow Israelite being tormented by an Egyptian, out of anger he killed the Egyptian man. This action caused the pharaoh to order Moses be killed. In reaction Moses fled to the desert in Midian.
Forty years has passes while Moses was in the desert, and in those forty years, God answers the prayers and cries from his chosen people. God chose Moses to be the prophet to lead the Israelites into freedom. God made his first encounter with Moses through a burning bush. In this occurrence, God made it clear that he has heard the cries of the Israelites and will answer their grief, Moses will be their liberator. God told Moses to confront the pharaoh of Egypt, and to request that he let the Hebrew people go into the wilderness for their three day journey into the Promised Land. God told Moses that if the pharaoh does not abide, God will intervene and show his mighty power to instill fear through works of wonder, after God has shown all his wonders the pharaoh will eventually listen.
