Multicultural Counseling Video Analysis
An important factor in dealing with clients is multicultural psychotherapy counseling. Multicultural psychotherapy is important and helpful during situations of a client is having a bad relationship with the counselor, or if they are facing either oppression or prejudice. It is important for human services professionals to understand the various ways and strategies they should use in order to help clients who have multicultural issues. There are going to be various examples within this paper of the various cultural issues that affect clients along with the ways that professionals help clients identify what their cultures are and how they are able to overcome their thoughts (Ivey, 1997).
Counselors Help
Counselors help their clients by getting to understand themselves thoroughly, and they get them to understand how to express their cultural identity in many different ways. During the first stage is when a counselor meets with a client and this stage is called the exploring stage. In the exploring stage, the counselor is going to be helpings the client to relate their problems with the context. Under the exploring stage the process of attending is also happening. This stage also includes when the counselor is going to be watching the body language of a client, their eye contact and verbal tracking. The second process of this sage is the reflecting or the questioning process that is a component first stage; the exploring stage. This stage includes paraphrasing, open-ended questioning, and summarizing what the client has told you (Ivey, 1997).
