My first date occurred when I was sixteen years old. It was me and a girl named Shanidah. We first met when we were around the age of fifteen at a church function in Aliceville, Alabama. I was visiting my grandmother for the summer at the time. Shanidah and I exchanged numbers and regularly kept in contact. In 2001, we moved from Montgomery, Alabama to South Hampton down Highway 69 in Tuscaloosa. During my transition to Tuscaloosa I lost my cell phone. That’s when I lost contact with Shanidah. Around the end of 2005 Shanidah moved to Southern Oaks in Tuscaloosa. She then attended Hillcrest High School with me; however, throughout my first semester we did not see each other. Throughout the course of a year me and Shanidah went to school together, I met her family, and I went on my first date.
January past by and school was back in session from winter break. Mr. Mills was my second block teacher. Mr. Mills taught Advanced U.S. History at that time. I walked in to the class and Shanidah was there and sat beside me. I would have start off by trying to flirt with Shanidah, but she showed no interest in me. Later on, all my hard work paid off when we both discovered we were both major fans of music, now Shanidah started asking me to make her CDs with her favorite music on them. As time passed we became close friends. We would always work on class projects together that Mr. Mills assigned in the class. Then one day I decided to tell most of my friends that I liked her, and they pushed me into asking Shanidah if she would like to be my girlfriend. Asking her out was not an easy task. Then I came to a conclusion that it would be best for me to ask her out in a letter. Summer was approaching fast and I had not gotten a reply from her.
