It had to be in July around what would have been my first husband’s birthday. We went to Oak City, Utah to go camping. In Utah, if you have never been there before, is full of mountains. The location in the mountain that we stayed at is called The Canyon. The word canyon means that it is a place in the mountain that split due to erosion from what would have been a river or stream. So as we drive into Oak City, the mountain’s that were once just tiny specks in the distance are now engulfing me. The only word that comes to mind when I think back on this awesome site is majestic. I felt as insignificant as an ant; we drove up closer and closer to these beautiful creations. The anticipation increased as we pulled up to the turn that would take us to our camping location. My feelings of excitement were increasing as though I was a child waiting for Christmas morning.
As we made it to the turn that now would take us up the mountain, I can’t believe how rough the drive as become. I look at the window and see that the road isn’t just simple gravel, but it is actual shards of rock that layout the road. Dirt is what lies underneath but it’s the rocks that give you any traction. Driving up the road, I watch and see all the different things out my window. I see other campsites but it’s not those that we are stopping at. Ours, I’m told, is further up the mountain. I see out the window there are certain spots where it’s thick with trees and it makes me think that Big Foot may live in them, even though the reported sightings are mainly in the state of Washington where he has been reportedly seen. I can see many places on the mountain that has deep caverns where I don’t want to think about what is hiding in them! We are driving farther and the road is starting to get somewhat steep. I don’t see the things out the window that were more at the base of the mountain. It’s like nature did have a chance yet to erode more mountain to accommodate humans as of yet.
