Consumerism
In general, consumerism refers to the idea or belief that buying and using a large quantity of goods and services is desirable for an individual person or society. This essay will explain the possible positive and negative outcomes of an increase in consumerism for cars.
In my opinion, an increased in the demand for cars will probably provide more choices and variety to consumers. An example of this is hybrid car which is likely to achieve improved fuel economy and increased power. Due to the rising level of awareness about the environment, hybrid cars are invented to combine the benefits of gasoline engines and electric motors.
In addition, an increased demand for cars requires more labours in the vehicles industry. Hence, it tends to generate more employment opportunities. An illustration of this is factory operators and engineers. Therefore, it is most likely to boost our country’s economic growth.
On the other hand, an increased consumerism for cars has its negative effects too. Generally, most motor vehicles do not appear to be environmentally friendly. This is in part due to the release of carcinogenic compounds and greenhouse gases into the atmosphere from motor vehicles. As a result, it causes air pollution and deteriorates air quality. Moreover, not every consumer can afford to switch from motor vehicle to hybrid vehicle.
In summary, it is my opinion that we need to analyse the overall impact of an increased consumerism for cars. Basically, we should not overlook both its advantages as well as disadvantages.
