In the hierarchy of the medical world, there are the founders of sickness and diseases like Tuberculosis occupying the first level. Then there are the founders of the solution, for example the development of the effective vaccine BCG for TB, by French scientists Albert Calmette and Camille Guerin. Last but not least, doctors and medical practitioners come into the picture, as the ones applying the theories found and prescribing the solutions to the sick. I aspire to become one of the problem solvers, surfacing new discoveries which are life-changing and more often than not, life saving.
My passion of science is just one of my reasons for choosing to study Biomedical Science, the engine of modern medicine. The formation of Bio Valley to spearhead the advancement in Biomedicine and Biotechnology under the 8th Malaysia Plan (2001-2005) had been an eye-opener, particularly boosting my initiative in jump starting a career in Biomedical Science. My love of science and aspiration for a Medical Science career is reflected in my A-Level choices where good time management, self motivated study skills and ability to cope with stress are essential. My choice of A Levels, along with other academic achievements, help consolidate and support my desired degree choice.
I have juggled involvments in co-curricular activities well while maintaining good grades in college. Participating in the "CO2 car competition" organised by Taylor's School of Engineering recently allowed me to delve into the field of engineering where both chemistry and physics are applied and emerge with hands-on experience through laboratory work and research, while through "The Good and Bad of Steroids" competition organised by Taylor's School of Biomedical Science earlier this year, I gained a valuable understanding of the workings and risks of steroids like Dexamethasone in coping with Bronchopulmonary Dysplasia in premature infants and Autism.
