Everyone talks about basketball whether it is about who just got traded, who is in first place in their division, or who beat the top notch team in the final seconds. One of the main issues in the National Basketball Association right now people never talk about is the age limit. The age limit today specifies that the player has to be nineteen years of age to be in the draft. The commissioner of the NBA, David Stern, wants to change the age to twenty years of age so the players can not enter the NBA right out of high school.
This is a very smart decision because it will make the league stronger by having more experienced players in the NBA. Having the age limit will also make the players go to college for a year to get an education, the most important thing in life. One of the bad reasons basketball players go into the NBA is because of the high salaries. The players think all of the money they receive in the contract will go to them, but it also goes to taxes as well. They see the money and want to have the rich, wealthy life many people dream about. By having the age limit raised to twenty years of age, it will improve the skills of many players because they will have one year under their belt playing competitive basketball. It will also give their bodies time to mature and develop. By waiting one year, the athletes get to be taught by several, famous coaches who have put players into the NBA.
