If that is true, everyone that experiences a lack of oxygen to the brain should report a near death experience. Other scientists say that the near death experience is just part of the process of dying. One theory is that near death experiences are caused by chemicals in the brain as part of the process of dying. One premise in this theory is that almost all near death experiences are the same and it happens to everyone when they die. Not everyone that experiences a lack of oxygen has a near death experience. Most people have had similar near death experience but some of them are vastly different. Another explanation of near death experiences is that near death experiences are merely a hallucination (Williams). This is the primary theory that scientist use when explaining a near death experiences. How Near Death Experiences are Similar Many near death experiences share some the same elements. For instance traveling through a tunnel or seeing a bright light has been reported in many near death experiences (Williams). Almost everyone who has had a near death experience has shown a significant change in their lives after the near death experience.
