There is a great advantage when considering modern advancements and innovations with media and telecommunication. A new platform to distribute thoughts, opinions and propaganda has exploded across our nation and the world as a whole. The various networks that connect the billions worldwide are intended for social interactions and connections. Social network sites and applications have become the go to resource for up to date media information. Social media has become very dangerous with the infiltration of terror groups internationally and domestically. The real time constant updates with millions of active users makes policing the websites a daunting task. Social media provides a climate that users are given privileges to update their sites and homepages with the ability to update with written word, photographs and or video clips. A few popular platforms include Facebook, twitter, YouTube and Instagram.

Terrorist groups have moved their message delivery to social media, as of recent posting beheadings of foreign journalists. Moving their efforts toward social media is mainly due to the fact that 1 out of 4 people are using at least one social media outlet. The probability of reaching a “new member” is vast amongst all the users worldwide. The financial benefit to such groups proves that starting new pages cost almost nothing in the case of having a website shut down. Rather than having a place to physically meet, and being able to reach people outside of their immediate radius. This creates a simple means of gathering terror members by opening their website to welcome them, rather than physically looking for and recruiting. Twitter seems to be the frightening platform where secret coded messages can be posted promoting terror propaganda in order to recruit.
