News Director

My role as the new director of the local television station requires me to give the audience news stories they want to hear first and then follow up with what the audience perceives as less important stories. If the ratings indicate they would rather hear about a celebritys death instead of the city closing parks three days a week then I would have to make the celebritys death the lead story. For me personally I would rather hear about what the city is doing regarding shutting down the parks for three days a week first and have the celebritys death be the follow up story, but the people are more interested in celebrity gossip then what is happening in there city according to the ratings. Even though the celebrity death will get higher ratings if I make it the lead story I have social responsibilities to provide other news and information to viewers who do not care about the death as much as the other news. Luckily for me the television and the newspaper are not the only ways you can receive news today, now the internet and cell phone applications are a widely used medium to publish news stories, this opens up ways I can get both stories out to the public without hurting my television ratings. I could post the park story on the televisions website as the lead story and use the death story for my lead on the regular news program so I do not hurt the ratings. The way the news media has evolved over the years makes it easier for the average person to follow the news they want to hear about. The television news broadcast and printed newspapers are a dying breed because of the internet and other forms of digital news formats. People do not want to wait for the news to broadcast at a specific time or wait for the daily paper. If I can get the same news that is relayed in these formats with just a click of a button and poof the news I want to hear about is there then that is what I am going to do.
