Breanna NylenThere hasn't been many times where I couldn’t grasp the skill being taught to me, however I do remember one time in particular. At a very young age, my mother used to try and teach me all sorts of words out of a book I had. Well, there was this one word I just couldn’t get. Let me add this story is very humorous and unbelievable in a sense. One afternoon after she picked me up from school and we sat down with my words book, we got to the word butterfly. She said it and I attempted to repeat. For some odd reason I just couldn’t understand how to say butterfly together, as one word. Every time I pronounced it I would say butter(pause)fly. In my head I was thinking such a simple and easy word but I don’t know if it was because I was young and couldn’t wrap my mind around two words becoming one. I just couldn't do it and I remember being so frustrated. I could hear her saying it, I could see the word, but yet every time I went to speak I still paused between butter and fly. As silly as the story is I can relate it to numerous learning challenges as an adult. Well of course I learned how to say butterfly together as one word and I believe it happened later that night or the next day which taught me resilience. No matter what obstacles I'm faced or how hard a task may seem at the time I can overcome it. Every learning task may not be as easy as the last, but they all can be conquered with just the right amount of effort.
