When you hear ringing of bells and Christmas carols on winter days in December you think of the Salvation Army. The Salvation Army believes in, “doing the most good.” The mission clearly states, “The Salvation Army, an international movement, is an evangelical part of the universal Christina Church. Its message is based on the bible. Its ministry is motivated by the love of God. Its mission is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and to meet human needs in his name without discrimination” (Salvation Army, 2013). The Salvation Army’s purpose is to minister the word of God and help those that are in need. The programs that are offered include adult rehabilitation for drugs and alcohol, prisoner rehabilitation, the fight against human trafficking, youth camps/centers, elderly services and Christmas charities. Furthermore, the Salvation Army would not be who they are without the help of the church where it all began but most of all government grants, foundation grants, private giving and social enterprise. With this being said the purpose is to discover the pros and cons of what each non-profit organization endures when they are being supported by these sources and how to make the purpose more beneficial to those that it affects.
Government Grants, why and why not?
The purpose of government grants is to allow the Human services organization to carry out a public purpose of support to those that require assistant under government approval. Furthermore, the Salvation Army should want this money to help them ensure quality assurance and accreditation that produces credibility in the community.
