{text:bookmark-start} My Five Year Nursing Career Path {text:bookmark-end} My career path has definitely taken some unexpected turns in the past 20years. I have always sought educational opportunities and tried to prove myself to my coworkers to move myself through clinical promotions in my places of employment. Now that I have grown up and know what I want to be and achieve in my career I have to set up my plan for achieving my goal. I would like to attain eventually a positionas a Vice President of a product line. If I had my choice of product lines I would choose cardiac services. In order to accomplish my career goal I need to gain more managerial experience in my current position, complete my MBA, and seek out additional educational opportunities. The ability to be competitive in the shifting marketplace of professional nursing practice is dependent upon a nurse attaining the credentials or experiences being sought. Identifying those knowledges and skills and developing a working plan to achieve them is essential. (O’Hallarin, 1996) Achieving my ultimate career goal will ultimately mean that I will have to change the hospital or organization I work for. My hospital is part of a large corporation in which I could move to a larger facility within the corporation to attain my goal. This would allow me to take my benefits and years of service to the other facility which would be a benefit. In my current position I have to prove myself evenbefore I contemplate moving onto another position. I am currently the director of an operation room and have much to learn about the financialpart of the operations. In my current position I am constantly challenged as to how I can balance my personal and professional life. My decision to return to school was brought about by a requirement of my current position which is also a benefit to attaining my ultimate goal.
