Obesity Epidemic

America’s obesity population is steadily increasing every year. The health and safety of Americans relies on the regulation of their foods by the USDA and FDA. The U.S. Department of Agriculture, is responsible for ensuring Americans that the food available to them is safe, from the seedling to our table. USDA also educates Americans on how to obtain proper nutrition each day and which food products are good for our health. The FDA, regulates and supervises the quality of the United States food, pharmaceutical, and other related health products that American consume. It ensures that the labeling of foods are accurate and safe to consume. However both of these agencies do not have strong success rates. Over the years due to dietary changes the percentage of obese American was supposed to decrease, when in actuality it did the opposite. Obesity continues to rise among children, guiding them to an unhealthy adulthood. Due to the obesity epidemic, there needs to be a course of action that will guide Americans to live a healthier life. Throughout this paper I am going to address the successes and failures of the USDA and FDA that greatly affected Americans diets and based off of this research, come up with a course of action to hopefully reverse the high obesity percentages in America.
Over the years the USDA has had many accomplishments that have benefited Americans nutrition knowledge and ensured the safety of food consumption. The agency has made the knowledge of proper nutrition a goal and has reaches this goal through advertisement in many forms. Michelle Obama partnered with USDA to launch an informative advertisement called Lets Move! which provides parents and caregivers throughout the country, information on how to make healthy food choices for their families and children.
