In the present society, the thought of fast food marketing is constantly running through the average persons mind. Americans today have become busy and will choose to eat fast food, because they lack the time and energy in making a healthier alternative. The marketers of fast food restaurants take notice to this and put advertisements everywhere showing how quick it is to feed a family with unhealthy choices instead of good ones. This marketing of fast food is contributing to the downfall of Americans health.
Among many bad factors in today’s society, the growing of fast food marketing companies are at an all time high. It is estimates that ten billion dollars was spent in marketing food, drinks, and meals to children and youth in 2004(“fast food and obesity” par. 4). This kind of marketing toward youth indicates many reasons why people are becoming unhealthy at a young age. They are luring children to eat fatty foods opposed to healthy meals because of how quick and simple it is to get the meals. Majority of all fast food companies seem to promote unhealthy foods more so then the healthier choices. With this problem, more people are eating fast food which usually has a higher calorie and fat intake then most foods(Frissel and Susan 11). Having a society that wants everything to be instant, the willpower of Americans to choose the healthier meals is slim to none. We now have the biggest problem with obesity we have ever seen.
As fast food companies grow, so does America’s increase in obesity. It was estimated that ten percent of America’s energy intake is from fast foods in 2004, opposed to two percent in the 1970’s (“Fast food..” par. 5). This problem is being to rise if we do not stop it. Fast food restaurants have more than doubled from 1972-2004 (“Fast food…” par. 5).
