Judy Simmons Page 1 English 99 September 16, 2008 The Number One Cause of Obesity in Children “Parents” According to “Centers of Disease Control and Prevention,” in the past thirty years the childhood obesity rates have doubled in children age two to five and twelve to nineteen, and tripled in children age six to eleven. A recent survey by Lightspeed revealed that nearly three out four respondents blamed parents, for the rise in obesity in children. Approximately one in every three children in today’s society suffer from obesity. Parents turn to doctors for answers, but they don’t like what they hear. Then the parents blame fast food, television, video game company’s, and just about anyone and anything that they can think of for there child’s problems. What if parent’s stopped pointing there finger at everyone and everything else? What if they where to look in the mirror, would they figure out who was to blame then? Fast food company’s makes and prepares the food the children eat. Fast food company’s profit the money made from these sales. They advertise there products to sale them. Mean while, the parents are the ones that make this possible. They are the ones who pay for the food, which pays for the advertisements. Who is responsible? Who is to blame fast food company’s, or the parent’s? Television company’s make and sale televisions. They advertise their products. There are televisions in just about everyone’s home. Who buys these televisions? Who allows there children to sit in front of them? Again, who is responsible? Who is to blame, the television company’s, or the parent’s? The video game company’s make and sale their games. The games are advertised so that they can sale them. Who buys these games? Now, who is to blame? The video game company’s, or the Page 2 parent’s?
