Child Development Observation 3
The child that I am observing is at the age of 10 years old she is a female child I have observed her on 10/28/2013 at 5550 Donna Beth Street, Azusa, California 91702. The setting is the child lives with her step father, mother and half little brother who is Five years old and two other families that consist of only one for year old child and her grandmother. All together that is 3 families they each have a room in a five bedroom house.
Social-Emotional-Development. Erik Erikson calls the age of Industry vs Inferiority. This child that I am observing is very cruel to other children her age. Especially to her younger brother and her younger cousin they are the age four and five. Her family, the older uncles and aunts hardly ever speak to her they seem to be always busy so she just seems to be closed off to them. I have hardly seen her mother give her any affection the way she gives her little brother. So she is always being pretty distant and quite, but when she does become social it is with a visitor that she does not see every day.
Physical Development. This ten year old is very skinny and about four feet tall. She does bathe herself and change her clothes once a day. Her hair is always brushed; I do know she has it very short. Her mom has cut it so that she doesn’t contract lice from her peers at school. Before she cut it a couple of months ago it reached her lower back. At this age all children have different body types but will change by the time they hit their growth spurts and puberty.
Cognitive Development. At this age I have observed children pushing away parents and wanting to be around other children their own age. This child doesn’t she makes it knows that she has no friends because she doesn’t like people her own age. She doesn’t read books, she hates math and will not do her homework so I couldn’t find out where she was on that. But she does have a set up in the back yard; a...
