Traditional vs. Online Dating
Technology has evolved in many aspects of life, especially searching for love. The internet CAP I NEEDED has brought a whole new life to the world of dating. In the past, when a person wanted to date, she would have to meet a person and set up a time for a date from there. Today, a person can find numerous matches, for dating potential, from the comfort of their PN ERROR own home. Internet dating often seems to be the easier approach compared to traditional dating. According to Robert Epstein, “In the U.S. alone, tens of millions of people are trying to find dates or spouses online every day.” (490) PERIOD AFTER DOCUMENTATION NOT BEFORE IT What is the difference between online dating and traditional dating? Deception and first impressions are key factors in comparing online dating and traditional dating. OK BUT WHAT ABOUT DECEPTION AND FIRST IMPRESIONS? First impressions are a key factor in the quest of dating. For online dating, the first impression is based off of information posted to a profile. Profiles often include information such as age, income, likes, dislikes and hobbies. A picture is also often included in an online profile. With all of this information, a first impression can almost immediately be determined to request a date. In comparison, traditional dating first impressions are based upon immediate attraction to the eye—without knowing anything about the person. One fault of the traditional dating first impression is, often times, once someone has decided that a person is unattractive; INCORRECT USE OF SEMI COLON it is hard to move past that to get a good impression based on the person’s personality.
