Bike'sone is a nonprofit program that serves the City of Camden, New Jersey. For years, this city has been one of the most dangerous and poorest in the United States. Like many other cities, with similar problems, there are a limited number of supermarkets within city limits, leaving less access to healthy food choices. These limitations are compounded by many residents’ immobility. Transportation is limited, as fewer families own vehicles or has access to public transportation. Some residents are even too ill to make their way out of their home to purchase food. Many children are obese due to an unhealthy diet, lack of exercise, and barriers to healthcare.
Bike'sone was established to help face some of the challenges that affect the youth in Camden, New Jersey. By providing a means to improve health through exercise, Bike'sone hopes to improve the quality of life. Bike'sone provides bikes, helmets, training, and other accessories. In addition, Bike'sone will provide proper training and membership into nurturing group. The participants will get in-depth tutorials on cycling, nutrition and will be part of art projects that promote the mission of the group and organized rides in Camden and the region. Through active participation in the Bike'sone organization, the children of Camden will remain engaged in a productive way and improve the overall safety of the community.
Bike'sone continues to strive to be the premier provider of youth bike experiences and seeks to make this experience affordable and available for all interested participants. For a minimal fee of $20 per child, $10 for subsequent children in the family, or alternatively an agreement to volunteer with the group, the children will have the ability to take advantage of this life-changing opportunity.
