Communication is a valuable entity of the human race that promotes growth through dialogue. Occurring in many different forms communication is the forefront of daily function. Different forms of communication are intrapersonal communication, interpersonal communication, and group communication. According to Roy Schwartzman, intrapersonal communication is the internal dialogue with self that affects how you present yourself and relate to others. Interpersonal communication is conversational and relational interactions with anyone we associate with and group communication occurs with three or more people who gathered together for a predetermined purpose. To be a successful in the mentioned forms of communication one must maintain an open mind to relay and receive messages in a clear and concise manner.
Shrek is the main character in the self-titled DreamWorks movie, who was faced with conflicts which encouraged him to become open minded resulting in overcoming adversity. His conflict began within himself (intrapersonal communication) which snowballed into a bigger conflict with the other characters in the movie (interpersonal communication). Shrek was a big green ogre who believed his appearance stifled his relationships when actually it was his intrapersonal communication that stood in the way. Isolating himself to his swamp Shrek did not have a lot of communication with anyone until he meet Donkey.
Donkey was a wisecracking friend who would do anything for Shrek but shut up, he became the voice of reason throughout the movie. As the two embarked on an adventure of rescuing Princess from a fire breathing dragon, the communication amongst them began to grow. Both Shrek and Donkey shared similar disappointments when trying to communicate with others. Working together to accomplish the same task allowed Donkey and Shrek to build their interpersonal communication.
