This section will evaluate my personal management style based on the habits outlined my Mr. Steven Covey in his book “Seven Habits of Highly Successful People”. After completing the Seven Habit Profile, it was obvious that my current management style was that of a transactional leader. In Emergency medicine it is important to have a cohesive team that can communicate with open dialect without the fear of offending or impairing idea sharing. Hundreds of hours go in to preparation; having the end in mind and putting first things first are the hallmark habit of emergency medicine. The interesting part was areas that I thought I preformed poorly in were graded as good. Looking tat the scoring system of the Profile the first 2 categories evaluated the two fundamental habits. Emotional bank and life balance, the emotional bank refers to your emotional wellbeing. The filling of your emotional tank., these are acts of personal value. Kindness, honesty, respect are examples of these acts. These acts are fuel that fills your emotional bank. These acts can come from co-workers, friends, family or random strangers. These are the interactions that make you feel valued and appreciated for your contributions and for being you. It is important to understand what it is that fuels your tank and feel confident in communicating that with others. It is this type of communication and openness that allows people to increase their circle of influence.
The second category is life balance; life balance is just what it says, the ability to achieve both personal and professional goals.
