INTRODUCTION:
Orkut is a social–networking site that is owned and operated by google inc. Social-networking sites are allowing us to intract with people over the web and also to maintain existing relationship.Orkut is such a site which gives the users the maximum fun to share ideas with their friends and also to meet new friends.
Orkut was launched on January 24,2004 by google.It was named after its creator.Google employee Orkut Buyukkoten. The invitation for orkut contained a simple message “ORKUT IS UNIQUE BECAUSE IT IS A NETWORK OF TRUSTED FRIENDS”. Through orkut, everyone will have atleast one friend to rely.we look forward to having you as part of community.
With the launch of orkut and it success the competitors launched similar websites like “MY SPACE,FRIENDSTER and FACE BOOK”.Orkut became a huge hit in brazil. Out of users 47.8% were from Brazil. In 2007,Orkut began attracting large amount of Indians too 38.5% Indian use orkut.
HOW TO ACCESS ORKUT ?
A user first create a “profile”, In which he give his details. User can upload photos with a caption users can also add videos to their profile from youtube .It allows the users to directly chat from their orkut page.
Orkut has other features like adding a colourful themes to our orkut page, creating orkut communities having special icons.
PRIVACY:
Earlier in orkut it was possible for anybody to view anyone’s pictures ,videos as well as scraps ,but people started misusing the photos and videos and placing them on the internet with fake details. Many of them were vulgar, especially pictures of women. Moreover, the scraps could be easily read.

It provide security to the users, by allowing omly the selected people of the user choice to view their profile ,special fonts,specials themes for festivals are always attractinf its user....
