WHAT

The practice in this video it is to show a patient that is paralyzed how to drive a car. I guess it is
happening in a facility specialize with car for patient that is wheelchair dependable.
The patient is paralyzed from waist down and he is only able to use his power wheelchair with his
Hands to move around.
I observed the occupational therapist was teaching the client how to get into a car. And also how
to drive a car properly while sitting in his wheelchair.
HOW
The OT used modify (Compensating Adaptation). I choose that it is because even though the
patient is disable and cannot use his feet to drive the patient is able to compensate by using his hands
to drive himself around.
The OT was very cordial and try to teach and explain to the client the different steps to take
when driving with his hands only. The OT tried to en courage the patient by doing the process with
him, and also by rewarding his efforts with lot of words of encouragement.
The client was very attentive to what the OT was saying and tried to incorporate every details
learn when driving , and when going into the car with his wheelchair.
It is related in a way that ADLs help the patient maintain his daily routine. Also help the patient
enjoys, and uses his full potential to reintegrate in society.
