The Miracle of Our Lady of Fatima is taking during the Revolution in Portugal in the year 1910. It was a socialist minority that was trying to overthrow the government and overpower the church. Many priests and nuns were thrown in prison during this time.
In the beginning of the film, three children named Lucia, Francisco, and Jacinta go to an open field where they are about to eat lunch. When they kneel down to say the rosary before they eat, the holy mother appears before them. The Holy Mother then tells them she will appear on the thirteenth day of each month with an important message for the young children. The three children go back to town looking extremely dazed. Hugo, a friend of Lucia’s father asks them about it but does not believe them. The three children then agree not to tell anyone else about what they saw. Later that night Jacinta slips and mentions to her mother about the holy mother appearing before them. None of the family believes her, but then Francisco comes along and sticks up for her. Lucia then comes and explains its true and sticks up for both of them. The mother gets angered by this and is in disbelief. The parents go and speak to the town’s priest and he does not believe that the holy mother had appeared either. The mother does not allow Lucia to go to the Cova. Lucia is then heckled by all the townspeople. The feast day of St. Anthony comes and it is the day that the holy mother is supposed to appear. All the townspeople gather for a celebration and mass but Lucia’s parents do not allow her to go to the Cova today and force her to attend the celebration and mass. The police have heard about the news and come to the town to take Lucia away. They cannot find out what young girl is Lucia and Hugo saves Lucia by taking her away out of the Crowd and takes her to the Cova.
