Overboard Novel Analysis

Overboard

When is enough really enough? I believe that Emily asked herself that question, on a day when she moved in to her fourth new neighborhood, had to wake up early to help her parents at work, and had to spend more than twenty hours in the middle of no where in an ocean. In the novel, Overboard by Elizabeth Fama, the protagonist, Emily, is forced to use her determination and will to live to save her life, as well as a little boy, Isman, on a dangerous journey across the Indian Ocean. Isman, at the age of only 9, is stranded by himself until Emily retrieves him and shows a great deal of faith in God that helps them both remain hopeful throughout their voyage. Emily is described as “white and lanky,” (34) with “clear, green-gray glass eyes, ” (6) and “a darling personality,” (16). Emily is easy to relate to because of her similarity in age with the reader and for how witty she is and her strong impact on people. One thing that I admire most about Emily was her will to keep trying. Things did not go her way many times in this novel, but she did...
