Challenges Involved in Managing a Restaurant
Restaurant managers deal with a unique set of challenges. Hospitality managers serve people from all over the world and a variety of backgrounds. It is important that restaurant managers have a variety of skills and experience working and dealing with a variety of people. The challenges that restaurant managers face every day are:
1. Cultural Barriers: Restaurant managers are responsible for having to work with customers from many types of backgrounds, and they are required to work with immigrant employees. Working with immigrant employees means there is language and cultural barriers. That makes their job difficult when it comes to conflict resolution or giving instructions to employees on how to do the duties of their job.
2. High Turnover Rate: There is a sixty percent rate in the hospitality industry, which means managers are required to train new employees every year. This makes working in a stressful environment from having to keep training new staff members in times when there’s not enough experienced staff to cover the restaurant.
3. Training: The staff is required to memorize the items and prices on the menu. They need to be trained in customer service and delivery skills. The food industry is fast-paced and requires employees to learn very quickly.
