In English we have been discussing realism, mainly in the story An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge. We also watched an episode of Scrubs, called My Occurrence. In both these stories the main characters have weird daydreams. The daydreams are about a positive result out of a bad situation. There were some differences and similarities between these two stories. I will talk about these in my report.
In Scrubs, the main character has terrible news to tell a patient after a series of test comeback positive for Leukemia. He goes into a daydream about the test being wrong and a mistake was made. In An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge, the main character is being hanged. He dreams about the rope breaking and escaping back home and reuniting with his wife and family.
There are many similarities between these two stories. One of these similarities is that they both involved something life threatening. In An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge, the man is about to be hanged. In Scrubs the test results, which are the main part of the plot, is positive for Leukemia.
Another similarity is that before they have daydreams they wish that the dream they have would be true. In Scrubs the main character wishes that the test results were wrong and happened to be a mistake. In An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge, the main character wishes the rope would miraculously break and he would fall to the water and live.
Another similarity is that they both in abruptly. In Scrubs, the main character comes back to reality after another character has to talk loudly to get his attention. In An Occurrence at Owl Bridge, the main character comes out of the dream when he dies. He hears a loud snap of a rope, then he feels a terrible pain in the back of his neck and a white line consumes the dream. He is then hanging from the bridge.
Another similarity is that the hospital in Scrubs had been having a lot of mistakes made within it. In An Occurrence at Owl Bridge, there are a lot of people on...
