Psychology is the science of behavior so therefore many psychologists learn how to predict, understand, explain, and control. There are many benefits of a career in psychology. Psychology allows you explore the complex human mind. Majoring in psychology can help you have a better understanding of yourself. The different topics available teaches you different points of view. Psychology can open you up to a lot of career choices as well which is a great aspect because you have so much to choose from. The (American psychological association, 2015) allows you to search through many topics and many careers in the psychology field.
Clinical Psychology/Counseling Psychology
Clinical psychology is the branch of psychology that is concerned with the assessment and treatment of mental illnesses, abnormal behavior and psychiatric problems. You would be a psychologist doctor in a hospital setting dealing with individuals that are wanting to be diagnosed with a mental disorder. Counseling psychology is the branch of psychology that focuses on therapeutic treatments to people who experience a wide range of mental illnesses. You work as a counselor with individuals with therapeutic treatments instead of diagnosing them with medication.


Similarities
The similarities between these two are you can receive a doctorate degree in both sub fields of psychology (Norcross, 2000). They are both great to consider if you are a student wanting to major in a psychological health career. Also the (American psychological association, 2015) has stopped offering intern programs for counseling and clinical psychology, instead you can choose one intern that includes both of these sub-fields. Both are also trained to work with individuals and give psychotherapy. You would also for both be working in a hospital, counseling type setting....
