The youth is the hope of the motherland is an idiom once enunciated by our Philippine national hero Dr. Jose Rizal. This means that the future of our nation lies in the hands of the youth today.
Many of the Filipinos are still believing that the youth are the future of the world along with the modern day technological advancements and electronic devices like cell phones, portable Internet availability, laptop, computers, iPods and mp3 players. With these growing access to communication networks cases of exposure to video games are existing nowadays (Norcia, 2014).
Many of our young generation today are expose to violent video games without mindful about how these games will affect them.The rapid growth of video games and many of the most popular violent video games like Call of Duty and Grand Theft Auto are at risk to children and early adolescents(Anderson, 2000; Funk, 2000). The exposure to playing violent video games influences the behaviour, cognition, affect and social aspects, it also increases aggressive thoughts, feelings and behaviour (Anderson, 2010), and causes aggressive and violent behaviour ( Ferguson, 2009).
According to Anderson, et.al., (2010), that exposure to violent video games is a causal risk factor for increased aggressive behaviour, aggressive cognition, and aggressive affect and for decreased empathy and prosocial behaviour.
From a global perspective, video games have become a global industry and spread across every continent in Argentina, Thailand, Hungary, Indonesia, Iran and Ireland (Wolf, 2016). Exposure to violent video games further affect the aggressive nature of the adolescents by increasing aggressive thoughts, hostile affects (Anderson & Bushman, 2001), physiological arousal (Lynch et al., 2001), and aggressive behaviour( Anderson et al., 2001), decreases prosocial behaviour ( Anderson& Bushman, 2001).
However, in the Philippines, exposure to video games are becoming an everyday activity in the lives of many children...
