Patients of African American outline
Africans who have immigrated from Africa, and other national parts of the country have very different cultures compared to the African American families that have been in the US for many generations.
I. Introduction:
(a). African American in the past were referred to and self-identified collectively as the American Negro, who now generally consider themselves African American.
(b). The majority of African American descend from slaves, most were sold into slavery as prisoners of war by African states or kidnapped by African, European, or American slaves traders.
(c). Massachusetts was the first colony to legalize slavery in 1641. Other colonies followed suit by passing laws that passed slavery on to the children of slaves and making more Christian servants, salves for life
(d). About 10-12 million Africans were transported to the western hemisphere.
(e). Slaves had some legal rights, which it was a crime to kill a slave, and few whites were hanged for it.
(f) Generally the slaves developed their own family system, religion and customs in the slaves’ quarters with little interference from owners, who were only interested in work outputs.
(g). In 1700s there were 2500 slaves in the American colonies, about 10% of the population.
(f). Rich civilizations thousand in Africa which Europe was still in its infancy; that there were black explorers, conquerors, inventors, mathematicians, doctors, scientists before, during and after the slavery.
(h). Slavery and freedom have been the central points of reference in America history.
II. Historical/background information (healthcare)
(a). There are large and persistent disparities the health status of blacks and white in the United States.
(b). People who self-identify as white are physically and mentally healthier than people who are self-identify as black
