Personal Interview

When I thought about the different people that I could interview for this paper two people quickly came to my mind. Two women that have been very beneficial in my life and that I am very close to, my mother and my grandmother. These two women have truly shaped me into the women that I am today. Throughout this course we have talked about how nature-nurture play a role in people’s lives as well as people’s different beliefs and relationships with others. My relationship with my mother and my grandmother (my father’s mother) was a major factor for me growing up. I took a different route with the paper and focused on what I cherish most about each person. My grandmother has Alzheimer’s. I found it amazing how she can’t remember what she had for breakfast, but was able to recall her childhood and how she met my grandfather. The brain is an amazing organ! It was very special to see how enthusiastic my grandmother became when talking about her life. My mother on the other hand taught me how to be a strong, independent woman. My mother is also my best friend and it was an honor for me to interview her. My grandmother and mother are my heroes and here are their stories.
This is not a story of heroism, although my grandmother is a heroine to me. This is more a story of loss and how my grandmother has lost her French heritage, not by choice but by circumstance. “Bernadette” was born in Lewiston, Maine on October 14, 1936. Her father, “George” worked in a shoe factory in Lewiston. He was also born in Lewiston but he was orphaned at the age of ten. His father died before he was born. After his mother's death, he was sent to The Healy Asylum. Although there was some family in the area, none were able to take the boy in. There isn't much known about “George's” ancestors, but what is know is that the family came from Orlean, France. Some settled in Prince Edward Island, some in Van Buren, Maine. “George's” parents are buried in Fredericton,...
