University of Phoenix Personal Values Jennifer Olson Management/521 Instructor: Michael Holmes September 29, 2008 The 21st century has observed many corporate scandals, which have served as a disturbing reminder that, however large or small a company is in terms of number of employees or financial turnover, dishonesty is a personal choice. Scandals such as Enron and WorldCom are real-life examples of what can happen when the values of a company are not actively established on a consistent basis, from the top executive right down to the entry level employees (Personal Values in Business). On a more positive note, there are many more examples of outstanding results, being achieved due to business owners choosing to exhibit a style of leadership that is grounded in practical competence but driven by strong personal values. One company that immediately leaps to mind is Kudler Fine Foods. This company has a clear vision on how to care for employees and customers alike, with a reliable commitment to fairness, high quality and loyalty, and is well established within its business as a first choice for many gourmet food lovers and health conscious individuals. Personal values are a basic statement of what is most important to us as human beings. The benefits that a company can gain from aligning their corporate mission with their employees’ values cannot be emphasized strongly enough. When every employee in a company feels that they share a common value with their executive team and managers, the results achieved in terms of teamwork, genuine communication, customer satisfaction and financial performance, can be outstanding (Personal Values in Business).
