Physiotherapy Personal Statement

I have thoroughly enjoyed my courses in biology and physical education and would not like to continue to a degree which will enable me to put my knowledge into practice. As I am a very energetic individual, the practical approach to science also appeals greatly to me. I am also interested in seeing the physical improvements in patients which will give me a sense of motivation throughout my career and will be a constant motivating factor. I already have this through my part time job, where I help children learn to swim and also attend ‘Fun Splash Clubs’ where I have to ensure all children are having fun and generally being active.  I thoroughly enjoy being a part of the child’s development and encouraging them to exercise. I would like to develop this aspect further in my degree and career. Furthermore, working part time as a swimming teacher gives me the opportunity to expand my communication skills and also gives me a leadership role. I am currently organising work experience with a local, private physiotherapist to widen my understanding of a physiotherapist’s working life.

 

At high school I have been deeply involved in a number of extra-curricular activities. In October 2010, after several selection stages, I was luckily selected to make a life changing visit to Bokamoso School in Botswana, where I was able to experience life in a community much less fortunate than my own. In order for this trip to go ahead, we had to work incredibly hard as a team and with the local community, to raise thousands of pounds to fund our trip. This required consistent self-motivation and amazing co-operation. During our stay in Botswana we were given the opportunity to teach classes in the school. I taught Physical Education, both practical and theory, along with Maths and PSE. This, without a doubt, brought out my communication skills and put them into practice.
