An old adage goes this way; “Success without hard work is considered cheating.” This is the exact case with the term plagiarism. Plagiarism is defined as a piece of writing that has been copied from someone else and is presented as your own work. Plagiarism is considered academic dishonesty, and therefore should be punished by an automatic failing grade in any academic setting for the following reasons.

Firstly, plagiarism in any school leads to a decline in the academic standard of the school. When students practice this, the purpose of education will not be achieved because no knowledge is acquired. On the other hand of the students, plagiarism encourages laziness in students, as well as reluctance to any academic works.

Secondly, plagiarism makes a bad reputation for such schools in which it is practiced. As more students who engage in plagiarism are caught and the news is spread. The school tends to lose all of the good names it has created for itself. No parent would like to send his/her child/ward to a school where this unscrupulous act goes down.

In conjunction to the second effect is that plagiarism also creates a bad reputation for the culprit. Anyone caught in this act is considered as a person with no academic integrity. The resultant negative effect on such a student becomes much, ranging from rejection from other schools/ colleges to rejection from peers/friends.

Finally, plagiarism has no good effect on students or on the school, therefore it should not be tolerated from anyone. Culprits should be failed automatically. If this is implemented in almost every school, students would definitely learn to do things on their own since they are aware of the consequence. This is the main aim of being in school.
