Abstract

Implementing change to an organization is a great task. Changing the way an employee performs a task can certainly bring about resistance. People skills are one of the most important skills when bringing about change. The people are the core of the organization. Whether the change is brought about by and internal force or an external force does not matter. What matters is how the employees react and how management implements the changes.
Planning and Implementing Change in an Organization
Organizational change is change brought to the organization that affects almost each person of the organization. Changes such as restructuring, changing company objectives or mission statement, introduction of new technologies, mergers, etc are the only way for an organization to survive in a world that is changing. There is no way to stop the changes if the organization wants to succeed. Today, the most successful organizations are ones who develop and grow and take advantage of the changes rather than resist them. Changes can come from many different sources. These sources range from new laws and regulations down to the people of the organization. Some changes affect everything from the people to the processes to the complete structure of an organization.
There are internal and external forces that bring about change in an organization. Internal forces such as employee demographics have become a common change in organizations as one company purchases another. Technology is another change force because of the rapid advancement in technology today. Competition is an external force that causes change.
