Population Problem in Bangladesh

Introduction : Bangladesh is a small country with big population. Excluding waters she has a land area 135,000 square kilometers with 140million people living in it. So, she is the most densely populated country in the world. And as such population problem is, by far, a burning problem of Bangladesh.

Causes : The over-population in Bangladesh is mainly due to climatic influence, illiteracy, early marriage, poverty, etc. More then 70% of our people are unlettered. They are not aware of planned family and dangers of having many children. Early marriage increases the rate of high growth of population. The poor standard of living of the people is also responsible for the rapid growth of population in the country.

Dangers of over-population : Over-population adversely affects the economic development and progress of the country. The area of Bangladesh is too small to support her vast population. As a result, it creates problems in the field of food, communication, education, employment, housing, health, sanitation and other spheres of life. Being over-burdened with population Bangladesh cannot afford to provide her additional people with additional necessaries of life. This makes the problem acute.

Remedies: To check the rapid growth of population and its apprehending explosion the following measures are suggested to be taken as early as possible.

At first the high birth rate of population have to be checked through the family planning. Effective family planning is the reliable means of controlling the population boom. To invigorate the programme more family planning canters with adequate number of health visitors should set up throughout the country. The small family with two children is the source of happiness and prosperity. This should be the slogan among the people. Secondly, the top-most importance should be given to educate the mass people.
