After the First World War 16,543,185 people were killed all together, and millions more wounded. The Canadian corp. suffered 64,944 military deaths. Upon returning home the troops were faced with no job to return too, or no military benefits. In some cases they never had a family to come back too. However the twenties were a very prosperous time, in my opinion the positives out weight the negative in the aftermath. Working conditions drastically changed from 12 hour days 6 days a week with no benefits, no workers comp, and very low wages. To 8-5 day jobs only 5 days a week with worker protection, health benefits, and very high wages. People were making more money than they used to be so consumerism came into play. People were purchasing thing they never dreamed of having which was very good for the government. Also it showed us the true devastation of war, and new idea’s started. It also pushed are technologies forward, like the development of airplanes. Also the League of Nations was formed to stop anything like this happing again later it became the United Nations. More, and more American factories where put into Canada to get around tariffs which supplied Canadians with jobs. The Twenties were a very good time for Canada, but this is short lived. and those were the positive and negative effects after the war.
