Essay Title Poverty
What does the definition of poverty really mean to you? To me it means a lack of means to provide for families with their basic needs.
The original definition for poverty means the state of one who lacks a certain amount of material possessions or money. Absolute poverty or destitution refers to the deprivation of the human basic needs such as food, water, sanitation, clothing, shelter, health care, and education. I just thought poverty meant living in poor conditions and not having enough money to be able to take care of my family.
Relative poverty is defined contextually as economic inequality in the location or society in which people live. An example of this would be the inner cities or (slums as some would call them) or those remote places that are so far out that it can take weeks for help to come. I have seen people living in squalor because of the lack of money to provide proper housing as well as food and clothing.
For much of history poverty was considered largely unavoidable as traditional modes of production were insufficient to give an entire population a comfortable standard of living. Another example of this would be after the industrial revolution, mass production in factories made production goods less expensive and more accessible.
Another important aspect was the modernization of agriculture, such as fertilizers to help with the mass production of crops to be able to feed the population. Example of that would be using fertilizer to help the ground have enough of the nutrients and minerals to be able to produce the yield that is needed to be able...
