In reading this chapter it has come to my attention that, family background plays an important role in criminality. Family is actually the building up of one in the society; Yolande has made very good points, in the different ways that family can affect a person’s behavior. But also how some people choose the wrong path instead of the right one. The factors that may affect a person’s behavior and development start from a very young age, if right from wrong is not established or even boundaries. That is the beginning of the person going off the wrong track. At a very young age kids are impressionable, so they should be taught manners, honesty, how to respect others things, be given a bed time, given chores and they should be punished when they have done something wrong and rewarded when they have done something exceptional like excel in school.
Some families are single parent families or extended families or even foster care. Most of the kids are raised by teenage moms, who can be moms but are not fully capable without a little help. As teen moms they still want to have fun, spend time with friends, have a boyfriend and party. And they don’t see their child as a great responsibility, because they have mom who they can ask to watch their child or find any babysitter so they can have a night of fun. And the following day is either hung over, or still with friends. So the child is either neglected by the mom, or the care giver at that moment is angry that they are left with child. So the child does not get the proper care they deserve. And as teen moms they often tell the child they were a mistake or they wished they didn’t have them.
Children remember things that have been said to them, they often repeat them. So as a mother your words and actions should be thought through carefully, because they mainly affect your offspring. No one tries to rule your life, but boundaries should be in place, such as going out once a month, asking your friends to come to where...
