Mexicans are warm and gracious. They embrace the “manana altitude,” and do not embrace the time-is-money mentality of many other cultures. Mexican workers tend to be team players rather than problem solvers. Mexican tends to develop a friendly atmosphere towards visitors. Mexican men shake hands upon meetings and leaving, and will wait for a woman to be the first to offer her hand. Women may shake hands with men and other women. Many times a woman may pat another woman’s shoulder or forearm, kiss on the cheek. Conversations take place at a close physical distance; stepping back may be regarded as unfriendly. The men in Mexico are warm and friendly, and make a lot of physical contact. They often touch shoulders or hold another’s arm. To withdraw from this touch is considered insulting. Mexican employers are paternalistic, providing workers with more than a pay check, but in return they expect allegiance. Mexican workers are compensated with free meals, free bus service, free daycare and weekly food baskets. Mexico business associates hardly ever entertain each other at their homes, which are places reserved solely for close allies and family. Usually they entertain business associates at a restaurant.
