Presidential Paper 1a. McCain was a naval aviator in the Vietnam War and retired from the Navy in 1981. He was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives from Arizona’s first district in 1982. After serving two terms, he was elected to the Senate in 1986. He would go on to win reelection in 1992, 1998, and 2004. Immigration- McCain wants to make sure our borders are protected so national security can be at maximum efficiency. Taxes- McCain wants to keep taxes low to benefit middle-class families. Further improvements include cutting the corporate tax by ten percent. 1a.Barack Obama was elected to the Illinois Senate in 1996. Obama was denied a place in the House of Representatives by Bobby Rush in 2000. He was reelected to the Illinois Senate in 1998 and 2002. In 2003, Obama was made chairman of the Health and Human Services Committee in the Illinois Senate. He stepped down from the Illinois Senate in November 2004 after his election to the U.S. Senate. b. Healthcare- Obama wants universal healthcare for all people in the United States. He can see how the cost of it presently would deter so many people from acquiring it. Environment- Obama wants to cut down our use of foreign oils and look towards alternative sources which include electric and ethanol. He wants to also pass stricter emission laws keep pollution to a minimum. Economy- Obama wants to improve our trade policies and tax codes so they benefit the average American. The focus on trade policies will increase our exporting of supplies to other nations. b. The likely voters for this candidate are: African Americans who see themselves in Senator Obama and would like to see the first black president, Caucasian males that relate in age to Obama and do not want to vote for Hilary, immigrants that realize Obama’s father was an immigrant himself and can visualize the American dream that Obama has created for himself, and women who just go for the “cute” factor of the presidential candidate....
