An Open Invitation to Violence
How would you react if the only sound way to enforce safety was to introduce guns into your children’s school? There has been recent thought by school districts and legislatures to consider proposals that allow firearms into schools for the sole purpose of increasing protection for students and teachers. We would only be reinstating the federal law that existed before 1995 which did allow adults and teachers working on the school premises to carry guns on them if they had the proper concealed-handgun permits. After the ban occurred, the plague of school shootings began to take place in 1997. Firearms need to be allowed back onto school premises to protect our students and prevent violence through the help of professionally trained adults.
In the event that an act of violence occurs on school property, all can rest assured that there is a trained adult with a gun as close to you as the next room over; rather than, a police officer that could be at least 10 minutes away. There would be guaranteed protection with little chance of the guns on campus being used negatively. The firearms would be concealed and out of sight for those who have them. Holsters are specifically designed for this purpose; furthermore, they are available with varying levels of retention. This is a design on the holster that makes it extremely difficult for someone to remove your gun. Also, there will be protection to the identity of the teachers who chose to bear a firearm. While this may be true, by law people who have a concealed-handgun permit is part of a registered database; however, names and addresses are not given. You can just simply look to see how many people in a neighborhood or city have firearm permits. This prevents any person looking to discover which teachers have firearms at schools. Our students are now not only protected in the event of a shooting, but may never see the sight of one simply because the firearm itself is present....
